Lockheed Martin furloughs employees; No impact expected in region

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. --

Lockheed Martin is furloughing thousands of employees because of the government shutdown Monday, but it is not expected to impact jobs in our region.

JARI said that it does not believe the furloughs will be felt in the Johnstown-area. The defense contractor announced that it will lay off 3,000 employees on Monday.

The initial furloughs include employees who work in government facilities that are closed or those employees whose work requires government inspection.

Other government contractors are also sending thousands of employees home without pay.
