New details of violent assault of employee at Rockview
By Gary Sinderson
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. -- She's lucky to be alive. That's the story emerging of a Rockview prison employee who police said was nearly choked to death while being raped.
New details on the reported attack are coming to light as police continue their investigation. They said the only thing the woman had to fend of the inmate who badly beat her was a whistle.
The new information is in the court document just filed by state police investigating the Rockview incident reported late last month.
They said the 24-year-old woman who was attacked had just started work at Rockview in June. She was in a prison office, when an inmate on janitorial duty strangled her, investigators said.
She was found unconscious, with her pants down and underwear missing, they said.
The new court documents said she tried to call for help using a whistle but there was no response.
State Representative Kerry Benninghoff of Centre Co. said he thinks more prison workers should be armed with at least have Tasers.
He is calling for a special investigation. The police report said the inmate may have been in the womans office for at least twenty minutes.
She was found bruised and battered, but was able to identify her attacker, documents showed.
