Community rallies to help senior fire victims
Dozens of senior citizens, still picking up the pieces after a massive fire tore through their home in Clearfield County last month.
61 people were left homeless after the blaze at the Colonial Courtyard, a senior assisted living facility.
Members of the staff at the home said they are also devastated by the fire, still wanting to help the residents even after they arent in their care.
Smiles covered up the sadness of the seniors who lost their homes when their apartment building burnt to the ground in June.
In order to show support for the Colonial Courtyard seniors, the Clearfield County community gathered together and planned a 5k race Friday afternoon.
The event was organized by employees of the living facility.
No one was hurt, but the building and most belongings were turned to ashes. Former residents said they are taking it day by day, some living with family members while trying to rebuild their lives.
Money was being raised to help replace items lost like hearing aids, dentures and glasses.
Hundreds of people from all ages attended the 5k including the seniors, who were bussed to the event.
Its a wonderful thing that everyone turned out for us, former resident Eleanor Ludwig said. After all of the tragedy we went through, its been quite an experience.
