Fight over abandoned buildings goes social

DALE, Pa.

Neighbors in Dale borough, Cambria County are fighting to make a change.

Alex Barron said the house next door his is abandoned and deteriorating for more than a decade.

He and his neighbors said they're worried for their safety and are asking the borough for help in tearing it down.

"My biggest question among a few others is what's being done to this property, Barron said.  Its been going on too long."

He lives next door to the house on Arthur Street.

"Glass is all over the road, the windows blow out in the winter time, he said.  They just boarded the house up this past summer.  Just the main concern is the traffic that goes in and out of an abandoned home."

He said he plans on taking action at an upcoming council meeting and wants ordinances enforced.  He's even created a Facebook page to gain support for his ultimate goal.

It's the health issue and the hazard."

Barron said he's hoping to gain enough support before next month's council meeting.  If it's not torn down, he's hoping to get the borough behind him to file a civil lawsuit against the property owner.

Officials from Dale Borough were not available for comment on Monday night.
