Altoona native faces $5M in federal fines

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A Blair County native, who heads a lobbying firm in Virginia, is facing millions of dollars in federal fines.

Court paperwork showed Alan Mauk, formally of Altoona, failed to file financial disclosure documents including political contribution reports over a four-year period.

Investigators said the U.S. House and Senate warned Mauk several times to get the paperwork together, but be failed to do so.

Mauk had ties to former congressman Bud Shuster's campaigns, where he worked as a volunteer.

Mauk told the Washington Post that he hoped to correct what he called "errors" in his filings. He faces up to $5 million in fines.
