One county considers adding drug counseling to court system

By: WJAC Web Staff

BELLEFONTE, Pa. -- One county court system is considering a new addition aimed at helping children who get in trouble with drugs.

Drinking and driving counseling services are already in place at the Centre County Courthouse which helps repeated offenders seek treatment.

The Centre County court system is considering a drug court especially for juveniles.

Its a problem, said Centre County Youth Service Bureau member Andrea Boyles.

Officials stress heroin use is impacting an older group of people.

The concept for juveniles is to add counseling early on to emphasize treatment and recovery before they become a repeated offender.

Well see how it works, said Centre County Commissioner Michael Pipe.

Court administrators plan to visit other counties, including Blair, where similar prevention programs are already part of the court system.
