Woods in your backyard program hosted at Penn State

By: Lauren Hensley

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.--   The second annual "Woods in your Backyard" program series was held Saturday on Penn State's campus. The workshop focused on creating healthy habitats for people and plants. Organizers said the vast majority of landowners have less than 10 acres. According to organizers, owners of even the smallest landscapes can make a positive difference in their environment through planning and implementing simple practices. This year's program focused on water quality.

A lot of what people own their land for is really to create a habitat for wildlife but we can do that in a way that creates a lot of other public benefits and the clean water is probably of one of the biggest , Dave Jackson Penn State Extension said.

More than 80 people attended the event. The program is sponsored by Forests for the Bay, Penn State Extension, Clearwater Conservancy and Centre County Conservation District.
