By: WJAC Web Staff

ST. MARYS, Pa. -- A man was able to escape from his home after it caught fire in Elk County.

The fire marshal at the state police barracks at Ridgway said Michael S. Murgash's home caught fire just before 9 p.m. Sunday along South St. Marys Street in St. Marys.

Murgash was able to get out of the home and was not injured in the fire, police said.

Murgash's home suffered extensive damage, which is estimated at approximately $100,000.

Investigators ruled the fire accidental and said it was caused by a wood stove and its chimney.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries while fighting the fire and was treated at Penn Highlands Health Care Elk Campus for those injuries.
