DUBOIS, Pa. -- Fire crews spent hours battling flames that lit up the night sky as a Clearfield County country club building burned, causing four firefighters to suffer injuries while trying to get the flames under control.

Firefighters were called to the DuBois Country Club at about 2 a.m. Monday for a report that the facility's main building was on fire. When crews arrived at the scene, DuBois Fire Chief John Emerick said there was fire was raging.

Several companies from around the area were called to assist DuBois firefighters battle the smoke, flames and cold weather. As the fire continued to roar, Emerick said they had to evacuate crews from inside the building for their safety.

"The icy conditions are probably our biggest headache," Emerick said. "We put a lot of water down with the size of the fire."

No one was inside the club at the time, officials said. The cause is under investigation by DuBois police and a state police fire marshal. The estimated amount of damage was not yet known.

Four firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the flames, Emerick said. One suffered a cut to his hand, one suffered smoke inhalation and two slipped and fell on the ice. All four were treated for their injuries.
