Penn State board of trustees expected to announce next university president

By:Lauren Hensley

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- A big announcement is expected to come from Penn State University Monday, with the board of trustees announcing the school's new president. The Tallahassee Democrat cites sources saying Florida State University's president, who's also a former Penn State professor, is the top finalist for the job.

Penn State is not confirming whether Eric Barron is under consideration in the secretive process. 6News tried to reach Barron's office for comment and our calls were not returned.

Our crews asked Penn State students what qualities they think the new university leader should have.

It has to be someone who is willing to be the face of the university and make the students aware that they are here. I feel like there was a lot of disconnect at times, most of our students didn't really know who our leader was, graduate student Mallory Meehan said.

I think that what Penn State needs is someone who has strong values and mainly just consistency and someone who sticks to their word and just makes sure when they say something is going to happen that is actually happens, Penn State sophomore Charlie Platt said.

The meeting Monday is open to the public.  6News will continue to have updates online and on the air.
