JOHNSTOWN, Pa. --- One man is in custody, and another is on the run as Johnstown police work to crack down on the crime within the city. Just before 11 a.m. Saturday, Johnstown police were called to Solomon Street and Jacoby Street after neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots.
Several people living in the area helped police identify one of the two people accused of being involved. Police say DaShawn Green, 20, took off and ran from authorities through the Walnut Grove area of the city.
"We got several phone calls from homeowners there letting us know where the suspect was hiding," said Erin Kabler, Johnstown police officer. "The foot chase continued and police officers were chasing him, along with Johnstown Police K-9, and he jumped into Sam's Run."
Police say Green jumped over a 14-foot flood wall into the stream below. He had nowhere else to go and was pulled out of the water with help from the Johnstown Fire Department.
Authorities say they also found several items allegedly belonging to Green that were hidden from police.
"We were able to follow his tracks, and we found out where he hid some clothing. There we found a firearm, some crack cocaine, marijuana and heroin," said Kabler.
After Green was taken into custody, officers discovered he had an active warrant issued for his arrest by the Cambria County Sheriff's Office. Green was previously facing drug charges.
He is currently being held in the Cambria County Jail. Johnstown PD plans to file additional charges against him.
