Police: Juveniles assault staff at Forest Co. center

By: WJAC Web Staff

HOWE TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Four staff members at a juvenile detention facility in rural Forest County were injured during a riot-like situation, according to state police.

State police at Marienville said troopers responded to the incident at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Abraxas facility, north of Marienville, or about 30 miles north of Brookville, Jefferson County.

The Warren Times-Observer reported the juveniles, all between 14-years and 17-years-old, became unruly during free time in the centers gymnasium, causing three staffers to be injured. A fourth staffer was assaulted when some of the male juveniles entered a female dormitory.

Police said eight kids left the facility briefly, but three returned voluntarily. The five others were found by troopers inside a vehicle on the centers grounds.

The staffers were treated for injuries at Clarion Hospital. Abraxas officials were not immediately available for comment.
