BROOKVILLE, Pa. -- A Jefferson County man is in jail after police alleged he kidnapped and assaulted a woman.

Brookville police said Shawn Whitenight, 39, of Brookville, was arrested early Tuesday morning at his home following the kidnapping and assault that happened Monday evening.

Police said a woman notified state police in another part of Jefferson County that she had been abducted at gunpoint by Whitenight at about 7 p.m. She said she managed to jump from his vehicle and run to a nearby store to call for help.

It was not immediately clear where the woman had been abducted or what relationship, if any, she had with Whitenight. Her name was not released by officials.

Police said at about 10 p.m., several officers and state troopers surrounded Whitenights home in Brookville and were able to get him out of the home without incident approximately three hours later.

Whitenight was arraigned Tuesday morning on several charges including kidnapping, false imprisonment, terroristic threats, and assault and placed in the Jefferson County Jail in lieu of $150,000 bail.

Court records indicated Whitenight is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Jan. 2.
