Two dead in Centre Co. head-on crash

By: Marc Stempka

POTTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- State police said two people were killed in a weather-related crash in Centre County Tuesday morning.

State police at Rockview said the two-vehicle crash happened at about 7 a.m. when a driver tried to pass another vehicle in foggy conditions and collided head-on into a vehicle heading in the other direction.

Police said the crash happened on Route 144 (Old Fort Road) near Tucker Road in Potter Township.

Police said a driver going north on Route 144 tried to pass another vehicle in a passing zone, but due to the fog, struck a vehicle traveling south.

The drivers of both vehicles were killed in the crash, police said. Their names had not yet been released and both were traveling alone.

Route 144 was closed for approximately two and a half hours between Route 322 in Potters Mills and Route 45 in Centre Hall while the investigation was conducted.
