Minor fire reported in Penn State's HUB

By: Marc Stempka

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Firefighters put out a small fire at a construction site at a building on Penn States University Park campus, officials said.

Penn State officials said in a news release that a small fire was reported in a stairwell wall during demolition work at the HUB construction site at about 1:45 p.m. Monday.

Officials said that contractors were cutting a steel beam near the Robeson Center end of the building and a spark from the beam cutting flew into the wall, igniting some insulation.

There was no apparent structural or interior damage to the building, but the fire did cause a lot of smoke, officials said. Fire crews were on scene till just after 3 p.m.
