Truck catches fire in Johnstown's West End

By: WJAC Web Staff

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- Firefighters were quickly able to put out a truck that caught fire while traveling through Cambria County Tuesday afternoon.

Johnstown police said a tractor-trailer was driving westbound on Fairfield Avenue (Route 56) in the citys West End section at about 1 p.m. when the cab of the tractor-trailer caught fire.

Police said the driver, Tracy Miller, of New Florence, was able to bring the truck to a stop as the engine compartment caught fire.

Miller was able to get out of the truck without injury, police said.

The Johnstown Fire Department was able to quickly get the fire under control, confining the fire to the cab, police said.

Miller said he was driving home for the holiday and lost some Christmas gifts in the truck fire.

Fairfield Avenue in the area was closed for a short time, but has since reopened.
