Employees locked out nearly one month

PITTSBURGH -- Nearly a month after a local power company locked employees out after contract negotiations broke down, the two sides remain at odds and employees are still off the job.
Representatives with Penelec and Utility Workers Union of American Local 180 met Monday with both sides still not able to come to an agreement over a new contract.
Monday was the second time both sides met with a mediator in Pittsburgh. Although talks continued, Penelec maintains its position that its best offer is on the table and union members remain at odds over benefits, primarily health care and pensions.
Penelec officials maintain that changes the union is seeking in the retiree health care program are unrealistic.
Approximately 140 employees were locked out beginning Nov. 25 when union members rejected the companys contract.
There was no immediate indication on when or if the two sides will meet again.
