Cambria Co. woman killed in wrong-way highway crash

Police continue to investigate crash

By: Marc Stempka

CROYLE TOWNSHIP, Pa. The woman who was killed in a wrong-way crash on an area highway Monday night has been identified.

Cambria County Chief Deputy Coroner Pete Long said Nancy Connor, 71, of Ebensburg, was killed when the vehicle she was driving struck head-on into a pickup truck along Route 219 in Croyle Township.

Long said Connor died of multiple traumatic injuries and ruled the death accidental. He said drugs or alcohol were not factors in the crash.

Officials said Connors vehicle was seen heading southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 219 in the Ebensburg area at about 6 p.m. Monday. As police were working to locate her vehicle, a crash was reported minutes later at the Ehrenfield Bridge near the Portage/South Fork exit on Route 219 north.

Officials said the vehicle Connor struck was being driven by a woman who had two children as passengers. The woman was taken to an area hospital in serious condition, and the children suffered no injuries.

The names of those in the pickup truck have not yet been released. Croyle Township police were investigating.
