Cambria Co. man gets jail time in baby death

EBENSBURG, Pa. A Cambria County man will spend years behind bars for admitting to the death of a baby girl.

Cambria County Judge Timothy Creany sentenced Patrick Burkett, 26, of Beaverdale, to 13-30 years in prison for the shaking death of Raegan Panick, 22 months, in August 2012.

Burkett pleaded guilty in September to third degree murder.

Prosecutors said Burkett was watching Panick while her mother was at work. When the girls mother returned, she found the baby unresponsive.

Panick was taken an area hospital before dying of her injuries the next day at a Pittsburgh hospital. Medical reports showed she suffered severe bruising throughout her body, a skull fracture and several other injuries, consistent with shaking

The defense said the child suffered injuries due to a fall.
