Flames, smoke destroy Centre Co. landscaping business

Smoke and flames engulfed a Centre County business Sunday night and devastated the building, and its materials inside.

Crews battled flames all night Sunday at Scotty's Landscaping in Potter Township. Route 322 was shut down in both directions for hours.

The fire chief said he was the first one on scene, and flames were shooting through the roof of the garage.

Company trucks and fuel was also inside that garage. Additional tankers had to be called in because of a water shortage, in addition to the wind, which only fed the flames. Six departments in all were called.

Luckily, no one was hurt. A second fire sparked in the woods nearby where crews had to get it under control.

The chief called in hazmat to take care of the fuel inside the building. He believes it's a total loss.
