CONEMAUGH TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Police said they have one of two men in custody, accused of leading them on a chase that spanned Somerset and Cambria counties on Sunday. Police said the two men are accused of stealing from dozens of homes in both counties.
Police said Monday the good news is that some of the stolen items have already been recovered and returned to the rightful owners, but they think there are several other burglaries that haven't been reported and some that might not have even been discovered.
Michaelson Ferdinand was taken to jail Monday following a weekend running from police, they said. Police said it all started Friday night, when he and
"The vehicle and the suspects were gone until the officers got there," said Officer Russell Miller, of the Conemaugh Township Police Department. "I had a description of the vehicle. It was a black male and a white male and a white Ford Explorer with damage behind the driver's door."
On Sunday, Miller came across that vehicle, but he said the two sped off, leading police on pursuit through Conemaugh Township and into Ferndale Borough, where the suspects crashed before running away, police said.
Police brought in a K-9 unit and spent the night searching for the duo without any results until Monday morning.
"We just had information that he was going to be going to the methadone clinic," said Miller. "We relayed that to the staff, and once he arrived there, they called Richland police."
Police said Ferdinand ran out a back door, down the hill and through busy traffic on Scalp Avenue, where police caught up with him in the former Kentucky Fried Chicken parking lot.
"He talked to us and did give us a confession to all of our crimes, as well as some other jurisdictions," said Miller.
Police said that while Ferdinand is headed to jail, Everetts is still on the run. Police said they're accused of stealing from dozens of homes in both Cambria and Somerset counties.
"There's incidents involving possibly the city, Richland Township, Adams Township. Paint Township are investigating, West Hills are investigating," said Miller. "There's several thefts of all kinds of power tools, possibly some firearms. There's all kinds of things they've been stealing out of different residences."
Anyone who has information on Everetts' whereabouts should call the Conemaugh Township Police Department at 814-288-1400.
