Cause of fire that displaced two families unknown

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. -- Investigators were back at the scene of a devastating fire in Johnstown Thursday that left two families displaced.
It happened Wednesday night at a duplex on Linden Avenue in the city's Moxham neighborhood. Luckily everyone was able to make it out safely but they've now got a tough road ahead.

"Our smoke detector went of, I went downstairs and there were flames," said Ivory Achen. "I got me and my son out."

"It was a very devastating fire for the family," said assistant chief Neil Crossen with the Johnstown Fire Department. "They're going to need a lot of help and a lot of resources going forward from here."

On Thursday the house was still standing but the damage was clear.

The Johnstown fire chief returned to the home, met with the families and took them back inside.

The couple who lives on the left of the duplex told 6 News there's about an inch of soot inside, but they said most of their things can be salvaged.

For Achen though, she said "everything's gone."

But she said she's grateful to have made it out safely. And she now thanks everyone who's stepped in to help.

"(My son's) school, my work, my friends, my family, strangers..." said Achen. "Just everybody has come together to make sure we get through this and it touches my heart. It really does."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
