Police: Suspect burglarized at least 30 businesses

By: WJAC Web Staff and Maria Miller

It was a crime spree that targeted dozens of businesses in Somerset County and resulted in losses totaling tens of thousands of dollars. But on Friday, police said they have the man responsible.

Pennsylvania State Police said 22-year-old Roy Penrose III is their only suspect at this time, accused of breaking into dozens of commercial businesses in the county since August.

Somerset troopers said they have been trying to track down the suspect for 2 months. As of Friday, Penrose was charged with one count of burglary, but police said there will be at least 30 more charges filed.

Police arrested Penrose on Thursday after receiving an anonymous tip. At Penrose's home, police confiscated about $500 in cash, more than 100 bags of heroin, a gun and multiple items that were reported stolen, including many safes.

In addition, police said they also found clothes in Penrose's home that were worn during burglaries, including shoes and a Steelers shirt seen on surveillance video.

Even though believe Penrose is their only suspect at this time, they are still investigating and asked that anyone with information call authorities.

Penrose remained in jail Friday on $75,000 bond.
