Injured Steelers linebacker Shazier remains hospitalized with spine injury
CINCINNATI – Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier remains hospitalized after suffering a spine injury in Monday night’s 23-20 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
Doctors said in a joint statement Tuesday afternoon that Shazier is still at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where has undergone a serious of tests to evaluate his spinal injury.
“He will continue to be monitored and treated by the neurology experts at UC Medical Center until he has been cleared to return to Pittsburgh,” the statement said.
“It is expected that Ryan will undergo additional testing and evaluation over the next 24 to 48 hours, and then he will return to Pittsburgh to receive further evaluation and care at UPMC.”
Shazier, 25, was hospitalized Monday night after he was injured while tackling receiver Josh Malone in the first quarter.
Shazier immediately fell to the ground and grabbed the middle of his back.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin did not offer any update on Shazier's condition at his weekly news conference Tuesday.
