Steelers place franchise tag on RB Le'Veon Bell
PITTSBURGH – The Steelers said Monday that they have placed the franchise tag on running back Le’Veon Bell.
Bell earned his second Pro Bowl selection and was named the Steelers’ MVP in 2016 when he became the first player in NFL history to average at least 100 rushing and 50 receiving yards per game in a season.
He led all NFL players with an average of 157.0 yards from scrimmage in 2016 and ranked second in rushing yards per game with 105.7.
He ranks fifth in Steelers history with 4,045 rushing yards.
The Steelers have until July 15 to reach an agreement on a new deal with Bell. If they don't, he will make the average salary of the top five backs in the NFL next year.
