No. 5 Penn State can't hang on in 16-14 loss to No. 1 Maryland
UNIVERSITY PARK -- The No. 5 Penn State women's lacrosse team held its own in the battle of the Big Ten's best, but the Nittany Lions couldn't hang on to their lead as No. 1 Maryland beat them 16-14 and clinched at least a share of the conference's regular season title.
The Terrapins remain undefeated on the season while the Nittany Lions now sit at 14-2 overall.
Penn State scored first but it was Maryland who took an early 4-2 lead in the first half. Penn State's strong offense continued a back-and-forth showdown, taking the lead four times throughout the game. But a 10-goal second half from the Terps sealed Penn State's defeat.
Sophomore Madison Carter tied her career-high with six goals while grabbing nine draws.
The Nittany Lions are now 14-2 on the season with one game left before the Big Ten championship. They will face Michigan on Sunday, April 30, in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
