STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- A plane flying from Destin, Fla., home of Vanderbilt University head football coach James Franklin, arrived at University Park Airport outside State College around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, but no prospective Penn State head coach got off the plane.

Penn State Athletic Director Dave Joyner walked off the plane, as did school President Rodney Erickson, but Franklin was not on the plane.

Joyner did not speak to any of the approximately two dozen media members when he walked to his car after getting off the plane.

James Franklin has been one of the lead candidates for the Penn State head coaching position since Bill O'Brien became head coach of the Houston Texans on Friday.

After playing in four bowl games in more than100 years, Franklin has led the Commodores football team to three consecutive post-season appearances since arriving at Vanderbilt in 2011.

An ESPN report released Friday evening claimed Franklin would no longer interview for the Washington Redskins head coaching position. NFL reporters Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen, citing sources, believed Franklin's choice would be either to return to Vanderbilt or take the Penn State job.
