Updated: Tuesday, January 21 2014, 01:52 AM EST

UNIVERSITY PARK -- Ryan Whiting, a resident of Port Matilda in Centre County, is the No. 1 ranked shot put thrower in the world. He won the 2012 World Indoor Championships, earned a spot on the 2012 U.S. Olympic team, and won a silver medal at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow.

Whiting is a professional in his craft but he spends his free time with the Penn State track & field team. He is a volunteer assistant with the Nittany Lions. WJAC-TV Sports Reporter Ashley Chase caught up with Whiting over the weekend, using his time with Penn State to prepare for his next meet.
