Pitt Avoids OT Upset, Beats VT 62-57

Updated: Sunday, February 9 2014, 01:28 AM EST

By Pat Welter

It was his worst offensive night of the season.  Held scoreless in regulation, Lamar Patterson didn't score his first points until overtime, and even those were free throws.

He was clearly affected by an injured thumb, but when it mattered most the senior delivered.  Tied at 52 with last place Virginia Tech, Patterson hit a fall away jumper to put Pitt up 2.  8 free throws later and Pitt escaped with the 62-57 win.
