RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that winger Pascal Dupuis will undergo surgery for a torn ligament in his knee, and may miss the remainder of the season.

The Penguins made the announcement Friday in Raleigh, N.C., where they are set to play the Carolina Hurricanes at 7 p.m.

The Pens said Dupuis suffered an ACL injury during Monday’s game in Ottawa after Sidney Crosby fell into Dupuis’ knee following a hip check from Ottawa defenseman Marc Methot.

“Pascal Dupuis will be going for ACL knee surgery in a couple of weeks and is out indefinitely,” Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma said. “The timetable is likely that he’ll be out for the remainder of the season, but we’ll see after surgery in a couple of weeks.”

Joe Vitale has taken over the 34-year-old Dupuis’ spot on the team’s top line alongside Crosby and Chris Kunitz.

“He’s also a big part of that dressing room,” Bylsma said. “That is a part of what we’ll miss from Pascal.”

Dupuis will have a rest period before having surgery, the Penguins said.
