O'Brien Introduced, Talks Penn State

Updated: Friday, January 3 2014, 02:58 PM EST

Bill O'Brien was introduced as the third head coach in Houston Texans franchise history Friday. He did not speak much about his two years at Penn State or his decision to leave, but did discuss the school in his opening statement for approximately 45 seconds.

“I love the players at Penn State and I respect their toughness and their resiliency and everything that they’ve demonstrated on a day-to-day basis. I do regret not being able to continue with the great kids on that team. While I tried never to mislead anyone, I understand that some people feel let down. But again, it was a decision that was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me.”

Larry Johnson, Sr. is serving as the Nittany Lions interim head coach. Penn State is currently conducting a "national search" for its 16th head football coach in school history. Athletic director Dr. David Joyner said a decision should be made in "days, not weeks."
