Officer seen fighting teen on video removed from street duty
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- A Philadelphia police officer whose fight with a teenage girl was captured on video and shared on social media has been removed from street duty pending an Internal Affairs investigation.
Commissioner Richard Ross said Tuesday that the unidentified officer admitted to tossing the 16-year-old girl to the ground and punching her while attempting to break up a large brawl on Monday afternoon.
The officer was one of several to respond to the intersection of 54th Street and Springfield Avenue following reports of a fight involving more than 30 people in southwest Philadelphia.
Ross said the teen acknowledged that she first slapped the officer in the face before the video recordings started.
Cameron Kline, spokesman for District Attorney Seth Williams, says the officer won't pursue a criminal case against the girl.
