Police: Student made threatening posts to scare bullies away
PUNXSUTAWNEY – School officials at Punxsutawney Area High School sent a letter out Wednesday to inform parents about a threat that was made against the school on social media.
Principal Jeff Long said they learned about the message late Wednesday afternoon, and state police were immediately informed.
According to a police report, a 14-year-old posted pictures on Instagram while holding a gun.
The report said the caption to the photo suggested "violence would be committed against other students."
Troopers said the student admitted to making the posts, hoping it would stop other students from bullying him.
State police said the teen was charged and taken to a juvenile probation center.
The school letter also states there will be a police presence at the school Wednesday morning to follow up with administration about the incident.
