Police identify alleged gunman who threatened neighbors
JOHNSTOWN - Johnstown police said a man was taken into custody around 6 a.m. Wednesday after an overnight incident in which he is accused of threatening neighbors with a gun in the Prospect Homes section of the city.
Police said the man, identified as Derrick Thompson, 28, is facing charges of terroristic threats, recklessly firing a firearm and resisting arrest. Police said he was wanted in the Philadelphia area for a parole violation of a robbery charge.
Thompson is in the Cambria County Prison.
Police said no one was injured in the overnight incident.
They responded to a report of a gunman threatening neighbors Tuesday around 11 p.m. at a house along Conway Court.
Officials said Thompson then barricaded himself inside a home and resisted arrest.
Johnstown police then called the Cambria County Special Emergency Response Team, which attempted to get Thompson to come out of the house by using flash-bang grenades.
When Thompson still refused to surrender, police said they went in and got him.
A neighbor told a 6 News reporter that he heard several gunshots Tuesday night.
Police said three neighbors had to be evacuated during the incident and a bus was brought in on standby in case others needed to be evacuated.
