Petition filed in court to have GJSD board president removed
JOHNSTOWN - Several residents have formally filed a petition in Cambria Court of Common Pleas to have the Greater Johnstown School Board president removed from office.
The petition comes nearly a week after school board president Cyndi Ahlborn came under fire for making controversial comments about suicide on social media.
The petitioners said in the suit that there have been a number of incidents involving bullying over the past several years. Petitioner John DeBartola said they have had 12 protests over issues of bullying and suicide in the past four years.
The petition said that Ahlborn and the board only apologized after the issue received national attention.
The petitioners feel Ahlborn's "callous comments" warrant her removal.
In addition to the suit, a petition was started last week, calling for Ahlborn's removal. That petition to date has more than 1,100 signatures.
A school board meeting is set for Tuesday and DeBartola said at least five people will publicly comment on this issue.
