Update: Centre County dentist accused of rape has permits temporarily stripped
BELLEFONTE – A Centre County dentist, accused of raping a patient last October, had his permits temporarily blocked Thursday.
Dr. Wade Newman has been stripped of his ability to perform dentistry and use anesthesia.
Newman was arrested in March for allegedly giving the woman a ride to another dentist's office on the day of a root canal procedure, and raped her afterward.
Police testified about setting up recording devices at the woman's home.
Authorities said he denied having sex with her, but admitted that he tried.
Police also said DNA evidence from a rape kit links him to the crime.
Newman was released after posting $1 million bond.
His preliminary hearing is set for next Wednesday.
