Logan Township police will begin utilizing body cameras Monday

LOGAN TOWNSHIP– The Logan Township Police Department recently acquired body cameras, and will begin wearing them on Monday.

In a statement released Friday, Police Chief Timothy Mercer said, “We are extremely grateful to the Logan Township Board of Supervisors for their vision in providing the means for our department to acquire this important technology.”

Logan Township is one of the first police departments in central Pennsylvania to utilize body cameras, which are also fully integrated with the in-car cameras the department started using in 2016.

Mercer also said the use of body cameras will allow the police department to accomplish many objectives, including improved evidence collection, improved training capabilities, and the enhanced ability for officers to prepare reports and present court testimony.

“Our goal of being able to document interactions with individuals from the initial point of contact with the officer until completion of the incident has been fully realized,” Mercer said.
