Johnstown man accused of assaulting pregnant woman, police say
JOHNSTOWN – A Johnstown man is facing aggravated assault and strangulation charges, accused of beating up a woman who is 15 weeks pregnant.
Johnstown police said Stephon Anderson, 25, of the 200 block of Sell Street, also is charged with terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment.
Anderson is in the Cambria County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $20,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. Nov. 22.
According to a criminal complaint, police said they met with the nurse who treated the victim in the emergency room at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center Wednesday about the alleged assault.
The woman told officers Anderson, her boyfriend, punched her and slapped her on the right side of the face multiple times. She said Anderson also grabbed her by the throat and “choked her” and then threw her on the couch and tried to “suffocate her” by putting a pillow over her face.
Anderson told the woman she was being disrespectful and it needed to stop, the complaint said.
Anderson also told the woman if she told anyone what had happened, he would kill her and then himself.
