JOHNSTOWN -- As the countdown to Christmas continues, a new pop-up Christmas store in downtown Johnstown is looking to add to the holiday spirit.

The Christmas tree in downtown Johnstown is a focal point for families to take pictures and have a little fun, and one new store is looking to add to the experience in Central Park.

"And you need to keep coming back because more vendors are going to show up," Joann Thomas told one customer as she checked out.

Thomas is working the register at the Christmas Gift Store. She's also one of the vendors. She owns Soap Hollow Soap.

"It was put together really fast, within about a week, maybe. Maybe 12 days," Thomas said.

The month-long Christmas gift store has more than 20 various vendors and crafters.

"They're mostly local,” Thomas said. “There are some from Pittsburgh, some from Lancaster. That's probably the farthest."

Thomas says the store is a great addition for the season.

"We've had lots of people walk in and say that it's nice to find some place to shop when they're looking at the tree. I guess local residents say it's nice to have something here in the building because it's been empty," Thomas said

Joan Polster agrees. She came to shop with her sister.

"You know we have the great Christmas tree and Christmas decorations and the music across the street and little shop here with lots of really great artistic novelties for the season,” Polster said. “So it's great. I hope more people find out about it and come down and see what's here."

They have everything from jerky and popcorn to decorative wreaths and wood products.

"There's three or four different woodworkers, all kinds of different types,” Thomas said. “One's rustic, country. There are all kinds of decor, little knickknacks."

Polster hopes this paves the way for even more business downtown.

"And the success of this store, too, shows other vendors the potential of the other open spaces in downtown Johnstown,” Polster said.

The store is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. On

Saturday and Sunday they are open 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The store, located at 441 Locust Street, closes on Christmas Eve.
