Chief: Outside wood-burner likely cause of Jefferson County house fire
SIGEL -- Crews from Jefferson, Clearfield and Clarion counties battled a house fire in Jefferson County Thursday afternoon.
According to Sigel Fire Chief Dave Smith, the fire broke out at a home on Route 949 around 11 a.m.
Smith said he believed the fire started due to an outside burner next to the house and wind cause it to spread to the home.
Two people inside at the time were able to get out and Smith said one firefighter was taken to a hospital to be treated for an undisclosed reason.
The chief said the cold temperatures and wind put a burden on crews trying to get the fire under control.
He said a nearby family is assisting the victims of the blaze.
