BEDFORD, Pa. - Acting Bedford County District Attorney Lesley Childers-Potts released the names of the three employees who were terminated earlier this month.

Childers-Potts said Courtney Wise, Shelley Wertz and Stacie Schreiber were relieved of their duties April 13.

The dismissals were part of a review of the office following the resignation and criminal charges filed against former district attorney Bill Higgins earlier this month.

"I understand that these employees were public service employees, but they also have a right to privacy with respect to certain pieces of information," said Childers-Potts.

"I also understand that the public has an interest in this matter, however, employees, including Bedford County and the Office of the District Attorney, are required by law to keep certain personnel issues private."

She said at the advice of counsel, no other information on the matter will be released.

Higgins was charged with 31 various misconduct of office charges April 4.

Hours later he resigned and Childers-Potts was sworn in as the acting district attorney.

Higgins is scheduled to appear in court May 30.
